COUNTERESPONSIVE STEMS Challenge

Flip this track | 170bpm | Submit by January 1, 2026 to be featured on Tape Lab’s newest release!

We’re opening the vault. Sort of.

We're dropping an instrumental demo of Counterattack / Counteresponsive, one of our favorite chaos agents from the Tape Lab catalog. It’s not a full STEMS pack—more like a glorified track bounce—but it’s yours to dissect, sample, destroy, and rebuild.

You can download the full .wav (recommended) here.

If you want an .mp3 (maybe for size limitations?), you can also download it below.

What You’re Getting

  • A hard-hitting Drum and Bass beat clocking in at a crisp 170 BPM.

  • No vocals (we stripped those out—find your own flavor).

  • A single audio file that’s begging to be flipped, warped, or slowed into some kind of downtempo mind-melter if that's more your speed.

We want to hear your take. Use whatever you want from the file. Mangle it. Or don’t. Surprise us.

The Prize

The best submission gets a Tape Lab release. No gimmicks, just respect. You make something that hits, we’ll put it out.

The Lore

The original tracks were both Gundam-themed. Giant mechs, cosmic beef, anime melodrama—start there if you need inspiration. Or ignore that entirely and do something that makes us regret giving you the track in the first place. Up to you.

Download the source track, make your version, and submit it.

Deadline: January 1, 2026

Let’s hear what the underground sounds like when it's counterresponsive.

TapeLab

Welcome to #TapeLab—stay a while and listen. Founded in 2017 by lifelong friends, Tape Lab is a collective of artists and a hub for innovation, always open to collaboration. With the zeal of a self-published memoir, our sound is our own, but you can be the decider. We make music and art that sounds like it was fun to make and stands out in a sea of bland beats.

As independent artists, we are always exploring new ways to expand our audience and find new creative outlets—especially with other undiscovered artists!

#TapeLab is currently based out of two headquarters in Durham, NC, and The Hamptons, NY.
