Why Tape Lab Belongs in the Hamptons
THE BASEMENT IS THE BEACH
This summer, we didn’t rent out a beach house to throw influencer parties. We turned basements into concert halls, garages into galleries, and backyards into something between a dream and a secret. Welcome to Tape Lab in the Hamptons.
We’re not just an underground band—we’re a collective, a label, and maybe something closer to an aesthetic. Our shows don’t come with wristbands or flyers. You find us because someone whispers, texts you a pin, or you catch the low-end rolling through the floorboards of a Montauk rental. That’s how it’s always been for us. Intimate. Temporary. Alive.
Why the Hamptons?
People ask why we picked the Hamptons like it’s a punchline. But it’s not about champagne on decks or overbranded leisurewear. The Hamptons are a contradiction—a place that hides its weirdness well. We like that.
“The Hamptons give us the serenity and the secrecy,” 2yng2smpl adds “It’s spacious enough to host these basement shows in plain sight, but you’d only find them if you knew.”
That duality—luxury and lo-fi, clean lines and distorted bass—feels exactly like what we’re making right now. We’re not staging rebellion. We’re staging reality, quietly.
Viral by Staying Hidden
We didn’t aim to “go viral.” That stuff’s boring now. We just wanted to play shows that mattered to people who showed up on purpose.
“We didn’t want to go viral the typical way—hashtags, paid posts,” says 2yng2smpl. “Instead, each basement show spills into whispered recommendations, then those become spontaneous pop-up merch drops. It’s viral because it stays hidden.”
And somehow, the more we stayed quiet, the louder the buzz got. DMs, photos that disappear after 24 hours, text threads lit up with questions like “where’s the next one?” That’s the Tape Lab algorithm—if you can call it that.
Merch that Speaks in Tones
We dropped our Hamptons Summer Collection without press. Just showed up with it at a pop-up and let people feel the cotton, see the cut. It’s quiet luxury in physical form: organic fabric, barely-there logos, colors that match the sand and the sky on a cloudy morning.
You won’t find our stuff in stores. You’ll get it when you show up, when you're invited, or when someone hands it to you after a set.
Sound as Clean as Skin
If you're into clean beauty, think of our sound like that: intentional, stripped back, no filler. We don’t layer for the sake of it. Everything’s there for a reason. It's minimalist but emotional—tight drums, warm synths, vocals you feel before you catch the words.
Tape Lab is about the in-between. Between the polished and the raw. Between noise and silence. Between knowing and not knowing.
What’s Next?
We’ll be here through the end of summer. More pop-ups. More basements. More strange, beautiful, fleeting moments. If you’re meant to find us, you will.
And yeah—keep an eye on the merch. The next drop might just be your favorite thing you didn’t know you needed.
